The Inspiration Behind Little Navy
Jen's Story:
After becoming pregnant with our second child, Navy, I rejoined the workforce so our family could live comfortably again. During this time, we sent our son Hudson to daycare. Although Hudson was only there for a short while, the experience became every parent’s nightmare.
Hudson loathed daycare. He would plead and cry for us not to leave him. He was sick often, but picking him up early proved challenging since my husband and I were commuting over an hour for work. We managed for a few months until a police call came in...
A supervisor at the daycare centre was arrested, charged, and convicted for creating and distributing child pornography. He was subsequently convicted on related assault charges spanning fifteen years. Sadly, many of his young victims were from this centre.
The day he was arrested was the day we took Hudson out of daycare—for good. My heart was broken, and I felt a panicked need to stay home and protect my children. But, I needed an income.
Just a few days after Navy was born, I bought my first sewing machine. I watched videos and taught myself to sew in between feeds and naps. I learned how to print on fabric through Instagram and began making beautiful personalized blankets and keepsakes for friends and family. The reactions were heartwarming! That's when I realized I could turn this into a business.
